FRAME CARDS with ORNAMENTS
Designed By Judi Kauffman
For Christmas, Valentine's Day, any holiday or special occasion, surprise
someone with a card that includes a removable ornament.
Bells are excellent for anniversaries and weddings as well as Christmas.
Hearts would be great for Mother's and Father's Day, new babies, and more.
Try a witch's hat for Halloween. Choose a cone for a birthday party
invitation or card. Make a photo ornament with a diamond or oval. Once
you get started, the possibilities are endless.
Note that ornaments can be a single flat shape, or include many layers for
a dimensional version.

Instructions
General Instructions
1 |
Choose your favorite FIT IT Frame shape (shown -- heart and bell). Print
the
shape on a card of any shape and size. Remember, each shape is pre-set for
two card sizes if you prefer to use ones that are already designed.
|
2 |
Print the same shape in a smaller size for the ornament. Flat ornaments
require one piece, dimensional ornaments require 5 or more of the small
shape.
|
3 |
Use craft knife to cut the shaped opening on front of card.
|
4 |
Using paper towel or stencil brush, lightly color card with ink to create a
mottled background (left side of "Sweet Pea" rainbow pad for pale pink
color
on Heart card, right side of same pad for pale green on Bell card).
|
5 |
Select two small Victorian Gems stamps (as shown, or experiment with other
designs) and stamp them around the frame opening using darker colors from
the
same end of the rainbow pad as used for the background. Beginners:
Practice
on scrap card stock before you stamp on your card. Note that the stamped
designs are random. Some impressions are soft because stamps are not inked
every time. Add gel pen doodles at edge of frame - optional (Bell card).
|
6 |
Adhere a rectangle of printed vellum to front cover behind the opening.
With
craft knife, cut away all but 3/8" of the vellum to create an inner border.
Adhere a contrasting color card stock or paper to inside of card (shown -
dark green and purple).
|
|
|
7 |
Flat ornament: Stamp small shape to match card, embellish with gel pens.
Hang from fine cord or ribbon, centered in opening at front of card.
|
|
8 |
Dimensional ornament: Sew five vellum shapes down the center. Fold flaps
to
open ornament. Hang from fine cord or ribbon, centered in opening at front
of card.
|
|
|
Options: Add wire-edge ribbon or cord bow at top of card. Glue gems, silk
flowers, buttons, jingle bells or other embellishments around frame or onto
ornaments.
